Beautiful space! They have a variety of upscale equipment and amenities that include an infrared sauna, steam room, and whirlpool. Their membership plans are pricey, but it's an investment for your health and mental well-being. -- Totally worth it!

I've been a Healthworks member at the Porter Square/Cambridge location for about two years and love this gym. It's clean, well maintained and with their summer 2023 renovation complete, it's more sleek and modern than before. However, there are a few things they could do to make the membership experience even better. First the positives: 1) Healthworks provides towel service which is a huge plus for me since that significantly cuts down on my laundry at home. 2) The locker room and spa area are always impeccably clean as well as the fitness floor. 3) You don't need to bring your own combination lock. The lockers allow you to set a code of your choosing. 3) They have shampoo, conditioner and body wash in all the shower stalls and all sorts of personal care items in case you forgot those when you packed your gym bag. (Think razors, Q tips, cotton pads, lotion, shower caps, etc). 4) They also have a wide variety of exercise equipment, surpassing what Boston Sports Club and Planet Fitness offer (although I would love it if Healthworks added massage chairs like Planet Fitness). 5) They have excellent personal trainers- I see one myself every week. 6) All of the staff are super friendly and helpful both in-person and on the phone. 7) They have massage therapists on-site who are wonderful! As for the things that are lacking: 1) Their billing system is a mess. Several times when I have been on auto-renew for a personal trainer package, I've been billed for the incorrect amount, billed earlier than I should have been, or even billed twice. Unless you happen to have $1,000 extra dollars sitting around in your checking account the day Healthworks charges you, this can create problems and a lot of anxiety while waiting for them to process the refund. I will say that management was apologetic and quick to fix the issue, but for a gym this pricey I expect their billing system to function. 2) Many of the lockers don't lock properly. Some have signs alerting people of this, but lately I've found an increasing number of lockers that are out of order and are not labeled as such. This is annoying if you've put all your stuff in a locker and then have to move it to a new locker when you realize the locker won't lock! 3) Many of the fitness classes for members are impossible to get into. I have tried to get into a yoga class several times and the waiting list is always full, so I can't even get on a waiting list! One of the reasons I joined this gym was for the classes, so I feel like I am not getting my membership's full value in this respect. They should either hire more instructors or get a larger space so they can offer more sessions. Overall, I recommend Healthworks. It's a high end fitness center, so yes, it's pricey, but we'll worth it for the benefits.

This gym completely changed my life. I joined Healthworks in January of 2018 in preparation for my wedding day that July. What I didn't realize was that the new routine I started that January would turn into a lifestyle and completely transform me from the inside out. Even on the days I didn't want to workout, their wet and dry saunas, whirlpool, and beautiful spa facilities motivated me to come into the facility to get some self-care time in (there's a CVS outside where you can even pickup a hair or face mask if you want to feel extra pampered). The instructors and classes are so varied and equally amazing and motivating, there's always something to do no matter what mood you're in. I was always able to ask someone on the staff to help me figure out how to use a new machine or what programs / classes would fit my goals and fitness level. I especially loved my experiences with Shannon, Hannah, and Kathryn -- they kicked my ass (in the best way possible!) and helped me develop my confidence in my strength and training that I never knew was possible. Over the course of 14 months, I lost over 50 lbs, reduced my body fat immensely, built my muscle mass, and increased my basal metabolic rate. I ran my first 5K, then my first 10K (both at 7:30 pace) and am now training for my first Half Marathon in August 2019! Everyone I know has told me that I look like a completely different person, and even though that can be nice to hear, that doesn't matter to me as much as the fact that I FEEL so much better, stronger, healthier (emotionally, physically, mentally) and I have a lifelong passion for working out now. I had to move out of the state recently due to my husband's new job, and the thing I miss the most is Healthworks. It's a community like no other, and I hope to one day be able to return!
